IC 4040 Datasheet, Pinout, Application Circuits

Dec 30, 2013

The IC 4040 is technically a 12-stage binary ripple counter chip, in simple words a device which will produce a calculated delayed frequency output in response to every pulse applied at its clock input. This delay is incremented at the rate of 2^(n) where n is the pinout order in the sequence of its outputs.

How to Use Aluminum Strip Heatsink for Hi-watt LEDs instead of PCB

Dec 27, 2013

Whenever we come across using 1 watt LEDs or other higher watt LEDs, we are always advised to use high grade aluminum based heatsinks for safeguarding the LEDs from heat, and for acquiring optimal performance from them. However as we all know such PCBs are highly costly and could be beyond the reach of new hobbyists. Using an ordinary aluminum strip as heatsink instead of a PCB looks to be an easy way out, let's learn more.

Voltage Doubler Circuits Explored

Dec 25, 2013

The electronic circuit device which is used for stepping up voltage to a 2x order by charging capacitors from a lower input voltage is known as voltage doubler. The charge current is switched in such a manner that in any ideal situation, the voltage which is produced at the output is exactly two times that of the voltage at input.

The post explains the construction of a homemade 10 watt LED lamp using 10 to 12 numbers of 1 watt LEds. The project was successfully built by Mr. Debabrata Mandal.

Comparing IGBTs with MOSFETs

Dec 23, 2013

The post discusses the main differences between an IGBT and a MOSFeT device.

What's IGBT - How it Works

The insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGTB) device is a type of three-terminal power semiconductor device which are basically used as electronic switch and is also known for providing a combination of  extremely fast switching and high efficiency in the more newer devices.

Bipolar Transistor Pin Identifier Circuit - E-B-C, NPN/PNP Detector

In the proposed BJT pin identifier circuit when the circuit is switched on, two jumpers will have both LEDs ON and the third will have only one LED illuminated. The jumper with one LED ON is connected to BASE. If it is red LED, the transistor is NPN otherwise, if green, it is PNP.

Induction Heater Circuit Using IGBT

Dec 21, 2013

The principle on which induction heating works is very simple to understand. A magnetic field of high frequency is produced by the coil present in the induction heater and thus in turn eddy currents are induced over the metal (magnetic) object which is present in the middle of the coil and heats it. In order to compensate the inductive nature of the coil, a resonance capacity is placed in parallel to the coil.

Car Turn Signal Flasher Circuit with built-in Lamp Outage Detector

Dec 20, 2013

The O.E.M. turn signal flashing units installed in automobiles have two  basic functions i.e. Flasher and Lamp outage detection. These flashers  are usually built with an 8-pin IC like U2044B, U6432B etc. which are  specifically made for automotive flashers.
